The sign up for Montaasi’s 8 mm Film Course opens on 7.10. at 12:00!

The 8 mm Film Course (Kaitafilmikurssi) is Montaasi's legendary two-day basic course on film-making held during the weekend of the 26-27th of October in Otaniemi. The first day of the course has short lectures on the short-film production process, screenwriting, filming, and lighting. The lectures will be held in English. On the second day, you will get to plan and shoot your own short film on Super 8 color film (in teams of 4-5 people). The films will be edited manually after the course at a later time agreed with the group.

More detailed schedule of the course:

After the course weekend, the films will be sent to a laboratory to be developed (usually takes one or more weeks). After this, the groups can come edit the film at the Montaasi clubroom. The editing is done by hand, using the method of cutting and taping the film. After editing, the short film will be sent to be scanned, so that groups will also get a digital copy.

The course offers a rare opportunity to produce your own film using 8-mm film. No prior experience of film-making or using film is required. Examples of previous years' short-films can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/showcase/3600680

The course will be organized in Otaniemi in Espoo. There are 18 spots available for the course. From the participants, we will make small groups, and each group will make their own short film. Montaasi membership is required for joining the course.

The price of the course is 25 euros (used to cover the costs of the film, development and scanning) for Montaasi members. If you are not yet a member, you can join through this link .
